Same-sex Marriage
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. Romans 1:26-28
While it was not the first gay wedding in the States, it definitely was the first same-sex marriage in one of the largest States there, New York.
The marriage bill was approved by the New York State Senate with a narrow margin vote of 33-29 this is despite the definition of marriage in the US Code which says: In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word ?marriage? means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ?spouse? refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife otherwise known as DOMA or Defense of Marriage Act of 1996.
While it was another battle won, the DOMA still poses a challenge to proponents of the same sex marriage in the States. Never mind what the Bible says in Romans 1:26-28 which says God gave them over to their shameful lusts. It’s basically saying that it’s a form of divine judgment why they do these things since they already gave up on God in the first place.
